I (Anna) have been playing with vegetable dyes since last Fall (2025). I finally got colors I like and then found the Gardener's Prayer Hat Pattern on Ravelry. It is a perfect match.
I Dyed on fingering weight yarn that is superwash merino with 20% nylon which is held double throughout the pattern. The pink is dyed with beets, green is red onion, and the periwinkle is purple cabbage.
Vegetable dyes will fade in the sun over time, so take that into consideration.
The background color is Cascade 220 Sport in a dark brown. This is a hand wash 100% wool yarn and is held single throughout the hat.
The gauge is 26 sts. to 4" and the pattern calls for a size US 2 and 2.5 needles. I used a 2.5 and a 3 to get gauge.
